Dick Birmingham | Dick Birmingham Sports | Championship Baseball Drill BookDick Birmingham is an internationally known coach and clinician. He is President of Dick Birmingham Sports, a company specializing in baseball instruction at all levels. Dick has been inducted into several Hall-of-Fames, including the American Baseball Coaches Association, the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association, the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association, Missouri Sports, and the Springfield Area Sports. He was the Head Baseball Coach at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri for 25 years and served as the Hillcrest American Legion Baseball Head Coach for 18 years.

For his efforts, Dick was awarded the honor of American Legion Baseball Coach of the Year in 1970 and National High School Baseball Coach of the Year in 1979. He was formerly Head of Instruction and Sales Director at Mickey Owen Baseball School for 12 years and Partner/Director of Instruction for Baseball Schools USA for 3 years. Dick was a co-founder and the Executive Director of the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association in addition to serving on the Baseball Advisory Committee for the Missouri State High School Activities Association for 13 years.
Over the years, Dick’s teams have won over 1,000 games. His teams always had the reputation of being well-coached and fundamentally solid. His high school teams accumulated 1 state championship, 5 state-semifinalist, 10 district championships, and 15 conference championships. His legion teams amassed 3 national regional runner-ups, 3 state championships, and 2 state runner-ups.

Dick’s record in player development goes unmatched at the high school ranks. Over 130 of his players received college scholarships and/or signed professional contracts. His 1972 Hillcrest team saw 4 players drafted while his 1966 squad had 6 players drafted, a national record. Four of his former players have played in the Major Leagues and 2 played at the Triple-A level.

Dick’s coaching record at the elite level is as impressive as his high-school level accomplishments. In 1993, he was the Head Coach of the gold-medal winning USA team in the Pan-American Junior Baseball Championship. In 1991 and 1990, serving as the General Manager and Head Coach respectively, his teams captured silver medals in the Pan-American Junior Baseball Championship. In 1984, he served on the coaching staff for the USA Junior Olympic team that participated in the World Youth Championship Series. In 1983, he was the Head Coach of the North Team in the Olympic Sports Festival.

Dick has been a featured speaker at the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National High School Baseball Coaches Association clinics. In all, he has organized and participated in baseball camps and clinics in over 40 states, Canada, Latin America, South America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

Dick resides in Springfield, Missouri with his wife Rosemary.
